There is a Time

September 9th, 2009

I stuffed the naked ladies
into the recycle bin,
their pink blossoms faded.
August was their time,
a time for barbecues
and family reunions.

Now attention goes
to dahlias and chrysanthemums.
It’s time for clam chowder
and corn bread, time
to clean out the closet,
to cut dead blossoms
and check the furnace.

A time to hurry roof repairs.
The naked ladies had their day
it’s time for them to go;
time to get back on schedule
and watch the clouds for early rain.
