To Capture the Scene

October 26th, 2013

The fog obscures
the house across the street
like a grey wash across
a canvas.

Sketch in the silver spruce
the green today is dull.
Fill the brush with gray
and a touch of white

to give life
to the branches.
Black paint mixed
carelessly

with white
and midnight blue
can sketch
five birds

on wires.
They survey the scene
and sometimes
adjust their places.

In the painting
they will
need to stay
where put.

Experiment with pink
and brown
to put a fountain
of terracotta

just to the left
in front of the tree
where a little black squirrel
is planting peanuts.
