Waiting for Soon

March 8th, 2010

Red sails in the sunset, far out on the sea,
I would sing on my way to school.
I wondered about romance.
Could there be a ship out there
somewhere bringing love to me?

In those days, Daddy believed his ship
would come in, bringing gold
or news of a good job. Even on darkest days,
he believed that just around the corner,
there would be a rainbow.

Some live in the present, some live in the past
some sit on the shore and wait for a ship
which may be just beyond the sunset.
I have a long list of things to do today.
I’ll start right after I check the shipping news.
