We Smiled

January 11th, 2010

Pictures
of places forgotten
important
when the shutter clicked.

Mountains,
somewhere.
More mountains,
more trees.

Rocks, seagulls, fish,
more fish.
I remember this lake,
this smiling couple.
I sent them a picture,
intending to be friends.

A reunion, cousins meeting
cousins, burying old feuds.
Some still smoldering, some,
causing small explosions.
A family picture,
but who is this child?

Pictures with no names
and names that have no faces.
Time takes time away.
Only yesterday
the shutter clicked,
we smiled.
