What Can I Say

November 15th, 2009

Age does not bring wisdom
it brings aching bones
and sagging breasts
and in the night a reaching
out to find an empty space.

Today a sudden sadness
of a neighbor gone; my quick
remorse remembering how
I snubbed her when she seemed
to interrupt my day.

Age brings letters with details
of disease, of disappointments,
hips that need replacing
broken bones, new knees
moving from a family home.

Earth was born by an explosion
from the sun, ejected in anger
or orgasmic passion. Some stars
will fall but I can’t care about
the whims of the universe.

I skipped to the Universe
because I don’t know how to answer
letters that come in the mail
full of trials and tribulations.
I don’t know what to say.
